The Laid-Off Cheat-Granting Mage Enjoys a Second Lease on Life

The day his guild throws him out, enchanter Rein doesn't despair—he cheerfully announces that he can now do whatever he wants. He pulls back the enormous stock of enhancement points he had sunk into his former guildmates' equipment and strikes out on a fresh path as an adventurer. The people who gather at his side all carry scars that refuse to fade: a gifted adventurer who shut herself off after her party was massacred, a warrior who lost her family, and an assassin trained to kill since early childhood. Rein never turns away from their pasts or their wounds; he embraces every part of them with an open, sunny warmth. Their world is an unusual fantasy setting where Uzis, slingshots, and yakuza all share the same streets. Here, the more people lean on convenient technology, the weaker their magic grows and the more fragile adventurers become. Cunning, savage monsters roam unchecked, and in the underworld, outlaws flaunt their greed and ambition amid a tangle of plots and betrayals. In a place where ideals and justice are easily trampled, adventurers keep fighting with nothing but their magic and their beliefs. It is a tale of people who lost their place in the world discovering a new way to live—and the wild, free-spirited second life of Rein and his companions starts here.
