Account & sign-in
How do I sign up?
On the sign-up page, enter your email address and a password, and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. We will send a verification email to that address. Click the link in it, and you can sign in.
I didn't get the verification email. What should I do?
First, check your spam folder. The page you see right after signing up has a "Resend verification email" button. If you have already left that page, sign in with that email address and click "Go to email verification" to get a new one. Verification links expire after a while; if yours has, just send a new one. If you mistyped your email address, sign up again with the correct one.
I forgot my password. What should I do?
Click "Forgot password?" on the sign-in page, or go straight to reset your password, and enter the email address you signed up with. We will email you a reset link; open it to set a new password. The link expires after a while, so request a new one if it has.
How do I change my password?
Once signed in, open your account center, go to "Security", expand "Change Password", and enter your current password and a new one. After the change, sign in again with your new password.
How do I change my sign-in email address?
In your account center, go to "Security", expand "Change Email", and enter the new address and your current password. We will send a confirmation email to the new address, and the switch only happens once you click the link in it. After that, sign in again with your new email address. Your old address also gets a notice about the change. If you did not make it, click the undo link in that notice and change your password right away.
Finding anime
Where can I see this season's anime?
The Season Anime page shows the current season by default, and you can switch to other seasons from there. You can also get to it by clicking "Anime" in the header and then "Season Anime".
How do I find a specific title?
Type the title into the search box at the top of the Anime page. Chinese, Japanese, English, and romaji titles all work. On a computer, there is also a search box in the header. If you just want to look around, browse by genre.
What is on a title's page?
Each title has a synopsis, details, characters, and related titles, along with the CosCat Score, the score distribution, and everyone's ratings and reviews.
Ratings
How do I rate a title?
In the "Rate This Title" box on the title's page, click a star to set your score (more stars means a higher score), then press "Post Rating". You need to be signed in to rate.
Do I have to write a comment? Can I change it later?
No, a score on its own is fine. If you do write a comment, the counter under the text box shows how much you have written. To change it later, go back to the same box, make your edits, and press "Update Rating".
How do I mark a title as watching or plan to watch?
Use the menu under the stars to set your watch status. Your choice is saved as soon as you pick it, and you don't need to rate the title first.
Why does a title say "No score yet"?
The "CosCat Score" is the average of all the scores users have given a title. Until someone rates it, the page shows "No score yet".
Reviews
How do I write a review?
On the title's page, click "Write Review" in the "Reviews" section (you need to be signed in). Your review needs a title of its own, and you write the body in the editor. You can save a draft while you work; a review can be published once the body reaches the minimum length.
I published a review. Why can't others see it?
Reviews are checked before they go public and appear on the title's page once approved. If you change the title, subtitle, or body of an approved review, it is checked again.
Profile
How do I change my display name, avatar, or bio?
Once signed in, open your account center. Under "Profile" you can change your display name, bio, and more; upload and crop a new picture under "Avatar".
Can I change my handle?
Yes. Change your "Handle" under "Profile", and your profile address changes with it. After a change, you can't change it again for 30 days, so double-check the spelling before you save.
